Crafting your own decorations is a fantastic way to involve the whole family.
By using existing materials with a few add-ons, you can create personalised and meaningful decorations.
In this blog, I’ll show you step by step how to make adorable ghost decorations using an egg carton—an easy and effective way to spook up your home this Halloween.
Great for ages 3+ with adult supervision
To make these hanging ghosts, you will need:
- White acrylic paint
- Egg cartoon
- Paint palette
- Paint Brush
- Googly eyes
- Scissors
- Newspaper /tissue sheet
- String
- Blu-tack
- Ruler
- A sharp object e.g. knife
- Optional: a bell

- Cut out the inner triangle shapes from the egg cartoon.

2. Put white paint on the paint palette. Lay out a sheet of tissue/ newspaper to place the triangle shapes on. Using the paintbrush, apply a layer of white paint to the triangles and let it dry. Apply as many layers as needed to cover the shape.

3. Once all is dry, apply the googly eyes to the top of the shape – as shown in the image.

4. Cut out roughly 15/20 cm of string using a ruler for each shape. If your shape doesn’t have a hole at the top, use a sharp object, such as a knife, to make a hole. Then gently pass the string through the shape, starting from the bottom up and make a double knot to secure the string at the end. Then gently pull the remaining string up.

5. Lastly, use Blu-Tack to secure your ghosts to a surface. I have placed my ghosts around the fireplace (if you choose to do this, please be sure to not allow the ghosts to hang too low down, as this can be a fire hazard!).

I hope you enjoyed creating these Ghost decorations, you can also find more arts and crafts ideas on my Etsy page.
Happy Crafting! 🙂
